Karnataka emerged in the 6th and 7th century AD
as Pattadikal [Karnataka]. Situated in the southern part
of India. Karnataka is famous for the ancient heritage
of Dravidian era, occupied by small kingdoms of local
rulers, some of them being exceptionally high in cultural
levels. During 10th and 11th century a new era took its
shape in pot stone temple building, which became the immediate
forerunners of the Hoysala temples.
Hoysalas established their small kingdom to the
east by the first great Hoysala king Bittiga [Bittideva],
who assume the name Vishnuvardhana from the God of prosperity
- Vishnu. In 1116 AD after defeating the Chola of Talkad
and to celebrate the enormous success, the large Vishnava
temple in Belur was built and consecrated in 1117 AD.

of Hoysala Dynasty.
